MAY 2016
To build on the Momentum of the Mayor’s Luncheon CCIS Newcomer Artist Award, Calgary Arts Development, Prospect’s Studio C, and Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) have joined together to offer “New Canadian Arts Connect” a program working towards building an inclusive and engaging Arts Community that integrates practicing newcomer artists that have recently arrived to Calgary.
To launch this new initiative, we are hosting an information night on Thursday, May 12th at 6:30pm at Studio C. Our intent is to celebrate the artists who contribute to the vibrancy and diversity of Calgary’s arts community. The spirit of the event is to offer an opportunity for Newcomer artists to learn about art resources in Calgary and to engage with partners that are working collectively in the Community. At the same time, arts organizations can more about the diverse challenges faced by Newcomer artists.
The interactive information night is also the kick off to a 3 week exhibition being hosted by Studio C showcasing works by New Canadian Artists. The New Canadian Arts Connect event features live music by African hip hop artist Stephane Nouz, a live model drawing session facilitated by artist Mark Vasquez-Mackay, and interactive pop-up stations with: The Esker Foundation, Contemporary Calgary, Green Fools Theatre Society, Rumble House, Loft 112, and CARFAC.
